Kalycito Data Logger as a Test & Measurement Solution
An expert in the manufacturing of Severe Service & Critical control valves was looking for a tool to measure the opening and closing times of Anti-Surge Valves (ASV). An ASV is a pressure relief valve used to protect compressors from pressure surges. An important parameter of an ASV is that it must be fast-opening with time less than 250 milliseconds. An existing valve time measurement tool had a resolution of only 5 seconds which was not capable of meeting the customer's requirement.
Problem Statement To independently measure the time taken for opening and closing of the ASV with a resolution of 30 milliseconds and log it in the form of a "Travel vs Time" profile. Kalycito's solution Kalycito immediately recognized the potential of its Data Logging solution to be used as a Test and Measurement platform and successfully addressed the requirement from the customer. Kalycito proposed the following solution: • Customize the Data Logging remote unit to act as an automatic test platform by generating actuation signals to control the valve's up-stroke and down stroke • Acquire the travel data every 30 milliseconds with timestamps for the valve's up-stroke and down-stroke and log it in a central unit • Display the logged "Travel vs Time" profile in a Graphical User Interface • Store the data in the database for future reference and retrieval in the form of CSV files The platform was made flexible so as to measure the data from different types of valves such as Fail Open, Fail Close and different sensors such as Position Transmitters and Limit Switches. The platform was also capable of controlling different types of solenoid actuators for actuating the valve. |
