9 February 2018 – Kalycito along with OSADL and Fraunhofer IOSB host the first workshop of the OPC UA/TSN project group on 13, 14-February at the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Processing IOSB in Karlsruhe.
The workshop had these three main objectives:
* General training on OPC, OPC UA and TSN
* Practical training on how to use the provided OPC UA software
* Discussion of the design and the practical realization of the demonstrator to be exhibited at the upcoming Embedded World 2018 trade fair
The workshop began with an introduction to OPC UA followed by an introduction to TSN. This was then followed by a description of the hardware and software dependencies for TSN and availability of TSN endpoints. The API requirements in Linux that are needed for applications in user space and the practical issues with determining its real-time nature were also discussed. There was a hands-on session to compile and run the open62541 OPC UA library. The workshop was concluded with a look into the license obligations that product manufacturers need to consider.
