2 August 2016- The Real Time Ethernet Conference was conducted successfully in Pune having participants from industry leading organizations like Forbes Marshall, Mitsubishi. The conference had technical presentations and demonstrations from partner organizations like B&R, Altera, Analog Devices and Kalycito. Kalycito conducted technical sessions on how to get started in understanding and implement the POWERLINK communication.

In the age of data, connectivity is of prime importance. With the focus in automation shifting to industrial internet of things (IIoT), seamless connectivity from shop floor to the board has gained prominence.

Devices, machines and plants are becoming increasingly connected and users demand for smarter sensors and actuators. Using Ethernet based communication is the only solution to achieve end to end connectivity and high performance electronics makes them smarter. But Ethernet communication is not deterministic and leads to delays in communication thus suiting only office networks. Industry demands higher accuracy, precision, throughput and productivity which require deterministic communication on Ethernet. Using a real time network on Ethernet in the field is of utmost importance. This enables accessing field data from the MES and ERP layers and communicates it to the cloud for analytics solving the IIoT needs of users.

The 2nd Edition of the Real Time Ethernet Conference brings together experts from embedded and automation providing their insights on achieving an ideal real time deterministic solution which is open source at the same time based on standard Ethernet. It also focuses on the seamless connectivity from the field to the MES and ERP layers. Ethernet POWERLINK is the open source real time communication protocol based on standard Ethernet complying with IEEE 802.3. It is a purely software solution with cycle times as low as 100µs solving the deterministic communication needs at the field level. OPC UA is also an open source communication protocol based on Ethernet which is used in the higher layers to send the real time data gathered from the field to the MES and ERP.
